What is a Salvage Title in Kansas?

Like many other states, a salvage title in Kansas means that the vehicle has been reported to the DMV to be a total loss, wrecked, or damaged to the point where it is no longer roadworthy.

Kansas salvage title cars cannot be driven until they have been repaired and inspected.

Vehicles that have been issued a non-repairable title can never be titled and registered again.

How to Get a Salvage Title Cleared in Kansas

After the salvage vehicle has been properly repaired, you’ll need to take it to a Kansas Highway Patrol motor vehicle inspection station to receive a Motor Vehicle Examination certificate (Form MVE-1).

Once the inspection is complete, you’ll be able to title and re-register it.

You’ll need to visit your local county treasurer’s office with the following:

  • The completed examination certificate.
  • Proof of ownership with the salvage title.
  • An application for title and registration.
  • Proof of car insurance.
  • Payment for your registration and title fees.

The newly issued Kansas title will be branded as “rebuilt salvage.”
